So the market is in the crapper and you lost your job. Again. This isn’t something our country hasn’t seen before, so relax a little bit would ya? Before you start lacing up those nikes and drinking the koolaid, lets talk about a few ways to retain your sanity in this crazy, crazy world.

Five Ways to Stop Hating Your Life.

Embrace the positive.

Times are hard indeed. This economic downturn we are suffering is affecting everyone, but that is no reason to jump out of your ten story window, that would require much more than the typical street cleanup and your goldfish would starve. At one point everyone thinks their life sucks, and usually it does. If you think your life sucks so bad, try embracing those few things that you haven’t screwed up yet. If all else fails you can always resort to comparing yourself to the people on daytime television, that can bring perspective to anyone. Find the little joys that make you happy and cling to them for dear life.

Do what you love.

I am certain that flourescent light bulbs have the sinister ability to suck your soul out from the top of your head. I have read studies where they say those things can causes migraines, tumors, and zombie rage. I say, step outside the cubicle and get some sun, stretch your legs and put your toes in the grass. Unless you live in New York city, then its soaked in urine and will just worsen the situation. Don’t spend the majority of your waking hours doing something that will make you stroke out at 55. Don’t let them win. Do what fulfills you and almost everything else will fall into line.

Take Emotional Inventory.

Which relationships are currently dragging you down? Are negative emotions causing you to hyperventilate at the very mention of your mother? Take an emotional inventory of the people you spend most of your time thinking about, anyone that is primarily a negative influence needs to be investigated and removed from your life. Toxic relationships have their way of digging roots into every aspect of your life. Get out if you still can.

Take the good with the bad.

Life is a cycle, it is not about some ultimate destination of meeting your dead grandparents in hawaii floating in rivers of milk and honey, its about the bonds and relationships we share right here. It is how we treat each other, our motives and actions. Bad things will happen to you like they do to everyone, as long as you aren’t King Douche, you will get your fair share of good karma.

Let go of the past.

Is there something that you can do to fix the horrible mistakes you (and everyone in history) has made? Can you reach through time and shake yourself into changing something? No, you cant. You have to let it go. The past is over. Its dead. It is gone. You can learn from it, but dwell on it any longer and your ulcers are going to start acting up again. Change what you need to change, and move the hell on.
