I can relate to what you said about what "other people think." I received the diagnosis of ADHD at age 48, and got relief with Ritalin (quiet in the peanut gallery!) from the racing thoughts, impulsive behaviors, and other associated symptoms. After all those years, I was very happy for the first time in a long time. My prescribing psychiatrist, since fired, told me I was "emotionally addicted" to the Ritalin. I told him, "Well, if the relief from those symptoms, being successful at work and school, and being happy is due to this med, then yeah, I must be emotionally addicted. Happiness is an emotion I particularly like. Isn't that what you're here for, to improve my life?"

I haven't been as fortunate as you to find an MD who will prescribe or even suggest marijuana for my various maladies (I'm in the process of pulling the scientific facts together for them.) However, I can relate to what you said about what "other people think." I got the diagnosis of ADHD at age 48, and getting relief, after all those years, from Ritalin (quiet in the peanut gallery!) from the racing thoughts, impulsive behaviors, and other associated symptoms, I was very happy for the first time in a long time. My prescribing psychiatrist, since fired, told me I was "emotionally addicted" to the Ritalin. I told him, "Well, if the relief I've gotten and feeling as good as I do now is due to this med helping me to be successful at work, school, and life, then yeah, I must be emotionally addicted. Its called being happy, an emotion I particularly like."

Unfortunately in Oregon at this time, mental and emotional disorders are not on the list of "approved" health problems for which medical mj can be prescribed. I'd have to go to a dispensary in CA with my diagnoses, and risk being a "criminal" for bringing the medical marijuana back across the OR state line. Working on changing that.

(Sure hope all the \s I'm seeing in the preview don't show up in my post.)

I have got my own , unbiassed private exposure to using weed, and regardless of how often users mention "it's beneficial with this" and "great for that", Let me tell you that it virtually wrecked my life man! Look, I do know there are people who are able to simply up and stop smoking, nevertheless there's lots of others that definitely have the most difficult time wanting to quit smoking bud. The root downside to being hooked on pot is that the habit is a mental one, definitely not physical.
