Lying to be Legal- Marijuana’s Dishonesty Trade

Medical Marijuana is running into some serious snags on it’s way to becoming completely mainstream. During this tumultuous time of unrest, when medical dispensaries are raided and patients are given the shake-down by local law enforcement, a sinister breed of dishonesty has also made an appearance.
Medicinal Marijuana is given to those qualifying patients who talk to their doctors and obtain a recommendation. In observing this issue, it is clear that many people are gaining their cards by giving false information to their doctors. While I find this behavior dangerous to every single sick person in Colorado, the prohibitionist find it just plain stupid. Think about how you would defend that piece of paper in court, should the issue arise. Would you be able to commit to defending a falsified statement in a court of law? Are you willing to bet your freedom on it?

Obtaining a medicinal marijuana license takes time. You must first have an “approved” ailment, you must meet with your doctor and obtain a recommendation, you must pay a fee and you must carry your card with you. The law that allows sick people in the state of Colorado to use medicinal marijuana has outlined these as the steps to take in order to legally use the substance. They may be based on outdated evidence, they may be biased for patients, but these are still the rules.

Denying the very nature, the very essence of the law is what gives the entire marijuana movement a black eye and puts thousands of hurting patients in real jeopardy. Prohibitionists want nothing more than to see our state flop under the medicinal marijuana banner. Of course they want people who are not legitimately ill to obtain their license, it makes the whole medicinal marijuana movement seem unnecessary and dare I say, criminal! Do I think pot is dangerous to your health and should be prevented by the government? No. But I do believe the citizens of Colorado voted to allow sick people to use marijuana and that is the law we all must follow.

Marijuana has been used for thousands of years, with no harm caused. It is one of the safest substances on the planet, but still remains illegal due to antiquated laws of money-hungry politicians. It SHOULD be legal for everyone, but it isnt. Not Yet. Legalize-Regulate-Round_bigger Coloradoans love marijuana, I think we can all agree on that.

Unfortunately, It isnt legal for recreational use. Our voices are louder than they have ever been, and getting stronger by the day. Now is the time to vote on the issues and to stand up to the public’s opinion of medical marijuana users. We simply cannot fail under medical marijuana, and expect legalization, It just wont happen. In the meantime, we have to uphold the laws around medical marijuana and stop lying to be legal.

We must follow the letter of the law today, and build a new and all-encompassing law for tomorrow.

Tell us what you think:

Should anyone with $150.00 and a made-up illness get their license?

Is upholding the letter of the law detrimental or beneficial to the movement?

lying to get your card is trouble for the people who have real cards and dangerous for everyone. Good luck debating it though!

So what are people with real illnesses supposed to do when their doctor wont give them their pot prescription? I think people should get it wherever they can, from whoever they can. Once everyone has their card, we will be free to legalize!

Divide and conqueror. WE NEED TO STOP FIGHTING, WE’RE ALL ON THE SAME SIDE. Smokers hating on smokers is exactly what the oppression wants. Classic government tactics.
Look here is the reality. I smoke weed all day, everyday for the past 15 years. And I will continue to live this way legal or not. Doesn’t change my lifestyle, however I didn’t pay taxes when I wasn’t legal.
Furthermore, the whole medical movement can be considered bullshit.
So, my problem with the recent explosion isn’t these assumption that their aliments are fraudulent.
But more so that they are RESPONSIBLE USERS, and not sitting in parks with bongs and thumbing the law in the publics face.
IRRESPONSIBLE USERS with cards, will blow this beautiful thing we got going, before a RESPONSIBLE USER with a lesser pain… UNITED WE STAND!!!! DIVIDED WE FALLLLLL!!!!!!
              Think about it

I think you have a great point here. Its true that many of the people who are getting their cards are being responsible by avoiding the senseless war on drugs and incarceration- all of the stuff that comes with being a “criminal.” But is it okay to hurt other people, even if you are protecting yourself?

I dont know, good point- but Id like to err on the side of caution.

Medicinal marijuana is for sick people and reall when you get a license by lying you are hurting those patients and the very nature of the law. You can’t beg for freedom and spit in the face of lawmakers at the same time. You can I guess but its never turns out well.

What about the idea that the systems, such as religion for instance, are created by people who don’t want to be accountable for their own actions? It is us who create the demand for things like religion, fast food, Dr.s, instead of taking responsibility for our spiritual connections, eating real food and knowing our own bodies. Just a thought. If … See Morewe say we want change, then we are the ones who have to act. I agree that we need to stand up and say what we want, we need to take that power back instead of wanting everyone else to take care of things for us. Who is everyone else anyway? Its us! But what about those who use natural health care and don’t see Dr’s on a regular basis, or don’t see them at all? I am a neuromuscular massage therapist, I see clients who are taking accountability for their health care. If you read some of the articles I posted, you can see where Dr’s are unable to deal with chronic pain effectively. As an NMT with 6 years under my belt dealing with chronic pain, I see these people more than Dr’s do. People with chronic pain are fed up with Dr’s. Pharmaceuticals are all you will get when you go to a Dr. because this is all they are trained in and they benefit only from selling pharma thanks to JP Getty, not med mari. Most of my clients are neglected by their general practitioners, ie. forget to mail the paperwork, delays, stigmatize them when they ask, pump them full of oxycodone etc. In fact most people won’t ask for that very reason. I would really like to see this issue addressed. It would be good for med mari to get into the natural health care realm, it will benefit both the patients and their true caregivers who are helping them with chronic pain on a daily basis. Natural providers have studied nutrition, hydration, exercise and somatics. Medical Dr.s have no training in anything outside of pharmaceuticals, (speaking from experience as I just took a physiology course at a regular college), its all about drug reactions. Dr.s are trained in drug reactions and surgery. Sorry to ramble, just wanted to shed some light on a few things. Thanks for listening.
