My dad has had cancer, twice even, and just yesterday he came into my room, knowing that he could talk to me in confidence, and asked me to give him the name of the doctor who helped me get my card. I broke down in tears as I wrote the number out on a sticky note. This is the man who once told me that anyone who uses marijuana is a dead beat and doesn’t deserve the air they use. I handed him the sticky and wrapped my arms around him. He laughed and asked what was wrong. I told him nothing and went out to the kitchen to finish dinner.

    That first time I heard about med marijuana, my mother was sitting with me in the hospital with belly pain. It was her that encouraged me to check it out. I thank her for that, if nothing else.
