i_love_blogging-7878051 Weblog communities (xanga, blogger, livejournal, myspace) bring mass amounts of people together, they alleviate the need to promote yourself and if you have any ambition, you can rise to the top of the ranks with relative ease. This makes for a small amount of celebrity within a very small network, if you like that sort of thing, stick around. If you really want to make a name for yourself, and trust the talent that you have, you should move to your own site to share yourself with the entire world. But hey, we can’t all have realistic goals of success. Blogging, for some is an easy way to get out the thoughts that seem to block the inner workings of the brain, for others it is a regurgitation of news or well-known facts that everyone has already been made aware of. A community is a good way to share benign information with a relatively small group of people. A diary or daily blog is also a good way to get out the muddled crap you have in your head, but if you are seeking a revenue or a sense of accomplishment, blogging within a community isn’t going to bring you much more than headache and anti-social drama. When you force people to read you, you don’t need to be talented. Blogging within a community allows you to amass readers who are just as committed as you are. While this may benefit you in the short term, you aren’t going to make a dollar blogging under someone else’s site. Do yourself a favor and get a domain name of your own.

I’m still trying to get my head around that last one and figure out what it has to do with domain names. (Though, admittedly, I’m running off about two hours of sleep from about seventeen hours ago, so my brain is probably not working too well right now.)
