Great article Paul, I have often been greeted with the same feelings. I dont mind church with grandpa, and the times when my children fold their hands in prayer to say thank you for dinner. Sure, its praying to the FSM but, if it makes them feel good, I support it.

I enjoyed reading this, thank you for submitting it to antisoccermom.com.

I am a Christian. Most of the athiests I have met have made it pretty clear that they were anti-christian. I’m not saying you are; you seem a lot more reasonable than the athiests that strive off of trying to destroy all Christians and calling us all ignorant and stupid.

I have more respect for you than most.

Jesus was(is) a pretty cool dude. And if he were to come back in human form a second time he would certainly be needing to put a lot of people (Christians and athiests alike) in their place. So many churches seem to have lost their ways and people seem to be forgetting the entire message of the Gospel. Love and forgiveness aren’t as common as they should be.

I used to get the same reactions when people (mostly online) found out that I was an atheist, too. I don’t know why ‘atheist’ seems synonymous with ‘anti-religion’ in so many people’s heads… I basically don’t care one way or the other whether people around me follow one religion or the next or none at all.

I’m a Christian but not in the strictest sense. I have several friends who are atheist or at least atheist leaning agnostics. I have no problem with any of them. Most of them have great moral compasses and are people I can rely on. That’s why I’ve kept them as friends. So, I know that not all atheists are anti-christian. I think atheism gets a great deal of bad press in both the media and in America. It’s unfortunate because this sort of discrimination really takes the attention off of the immoral (bad) actions of self-proclaimed Christians when it should focused most on such people.

I am a Christian, but only in the broadest sense of the word. I do my best to follow Christ’s example in morals and whatnot. Anyone I can hang out with, drink some coffee with, discuss anything intelligently, be it Theology, News, or Hockey, I’m fine with you. Way to go, you’re on the list.
